In this case we see the improvement of patient’s smile after 20 month of orthodontic treatment. Her smile became wider after the broadening of her upper arch (A) (B).

This patient had aesthetic and serious periodontal problems. The supporting bone of her teeth was reduced significally due to advanced periodontal disease. As a result, the upper front teeth flared out and her lips were prominent. She could not close her lips easily (A), (Γ) and the chin(Β) was far behind in relation to her nose and her lips. After 24 months of combined orthodontic and periodontal treatment without extracting any teeth her profile became orthognathic. Her lips, nose and chin are symmetrically related. There is a 7-year time difference between the photos but in the second one the patient looks younger. She saved her teeth from periodontitis, improved the appearance of her face and also facilitated mastication, swallowing and breathing. All of the above were achieved with a combined treatment provided by an orthodontist and a periodontist working together.
